Ali + Eric | A Garden Party Wedding
Good Humus Farm | Capay Valley | California | a beautiful family farm wedding
Back in college I fell in love with flowers. The purity of the joy they brought to the world. I use to think they were frivolous, but soon learned they were, like food, also nourishment — nourishment for the soul. I started working at Good Humus my last year of school where I met the Mains, owners and operators of this 20-acre diverse, organic family farm. I worked with Ali, their oldest daughter, on their flower operation — harvesting early mornings before the anemones and ranunculus would open up their petals, designing bouquets for farmers markets — it was good hard work. And also dreamy work. I sadly had to leave and move on to other ventures but kept in touch with the Mains. When I started my photography endeavor about a year and a half ago, Ali reached out to me to do their engagement shoot (my first engagement shoot…). Miraculously the photos turned out. And then Ali pitched me shooting their wedding, a year from then. A year from that moment felt so far away, so somehow I was convinced to say “yes”. Well a year came and went, and on a beautiful sunny day, Ali and Eric got married on the farm she grew up on — where every nook and every tree had a story. And that day too, was added to the collection of memories now deeply nestled into the root systems and soils of the farm; embedded in the very essence of that place. It was magic, and I hope these images evoke that magic for you (or at least get close to it). It was the very reminder that, like the land the farm sits on, love grows, evolves, adapts, nourishes, and carries you through life, through all of its beauties and challenges, it will always be there for you.
